Oh. I'm last post again :thumbsdown_still: What happened to 'Wa's post? did he delete it himself or did someone delete his posts just because he'd gone a bit wrong in the noggin?

I was going to ask about the soup. And also Keith, he sounds quite a character.....

Hello, Art.

I have been watching the world fray at the edges while the rot continues in our Club.

I guess that the 'popularism - alternate facts' brigade will infiltrate Australian politics soon.

When I was a younger man, a boy in fact, I used to want to make the things they made on Blue Peter but I never had the stuff you needed at the time. Usually it was sticky back plastic and ice lolly sticks. I never really knew what 'sticky back plastic' was and still don't, did it just mean double sided sellotape? Anyway I never had that but I did save the ice lolly sticks.

I put them away in a kitchen drawer throughout the summer at a reasonable rate and waited for something requiring them to be made. The weeks went past and the drawer became quite full. Finally the day arrived, "You'll need ten sticks from an ice lollies" I laughed to myself thinking of all the fools just sat watching unable to join in due to their lack of sticks, and off I went to get them. I pulled the drawer right out and reached in to get them to find.......

This story will be concluded at a later date.

The entire drawer was crawling with ants. Loads and loads of ants. Should have washed the sticks....

Curiously, the populism/alt right brigade were pretty underwhelming in the recent State election, getting less than 5% of the vote. The Greens managed around 12% and have lost some credibility around some of the more extreme left views they hold. The sitting Liberal (conservative) Party was turfed out after 2 terms, Labor having a comprehensive win back into government.

On another matter entirely, I think I may have overdosed on almonds....

Why is the conservative party called Liberal when in a non-politial use these words have opposite meanings? Is it to do with you all being upsidedown?

Art's fascinating fact: I like almonds and I don't mind a sugar coated sweet but I find sugared almonds quite disgusting.

I'm allergic to almonds.  I found out because I once decided to eat on of the almonds off the almond tree in our garden.  If I'd died then I wouldn't be here to tell you this fascinating story so every silver lining has a cloud.

I didn't even know we had almond trees in this country. I never buy them myself but if someone else is offering I do quite like a nibble of their nuts.

Now, that is one of the duller posts I've made on here but I had the last post in all the other sections so thought I should go for the full set B)

Art's warning: If my typing is below its usual standard it's because my keyboard has packed up and I've had to dig out an ancient one from the early 1900s to replace it.

Yes, your typing is a little off but I'm sure you'll get used to the keyboard... or we'll get used to the substandard typing, either way, don't worry.

In response to your response to my last post, in December :mario: Yes, I am a happily married man now. Its been six months now. We've just been away for a belated honeymoon. Thankfully it wasn't ruined by Forest getting themselves relegated. Nice of the side to finally show some bottle on the final day of the season.

I've been left to my own devices this weekend. I don't know what to do the freetime. Is posting reviews on tripadvisor of shitty local pubs a good way to spend a saturday night? :cool04:

Well, three posters who aren't me in one night. Amazing. One was in the daytime and one from someone halfway through a mental breakdown but even so.. And I don't mean Daz because of the marriage, I mean you 'Wa. I've read about Rosemary Kennedy before when I was reading about lobotomies. Yeah, that right, that's the kind of thing I do. Not something you're considering is it? I'd advise against it :thumbsdown_still:

It's a bit sad that the top ten posters, which I'm going to take Daz's word is known as The Hall of Fame, contains five people who haven't been on in several years.

Perhaps the emotions that are involved in sitting through a recent season, have seeped into other aspects of their lives and they have just given up. I know I felt like it occasionally last term.

BTW that dog video of Denver's guilty face is just the funniest thing.

"When I was a child, I was terrified that when I grew up I would forget what it was like to be a child. I saw adults, all of whom I knew had once been children, ignoring my attempts to communicate that things were very important to me, or offhandedly giving me torturous punishments and remaining unaffected by my pleas. I knew they never ever would have treated me like this if they’d remembered what it was like to be a child, and I was terrified that I would become the same one day and do the same to my children.

So I sent myself mental letters. I knew I would forget my experiences, so I imprinted messages with a stamp of “this is incredibly important even if you don’t feel it anymore” I ritualistically would recall these messages and honor their importance in order to preserve them across time and my growing up. This is how now, I have ‘messages’ in my mind from my past self, saying things like “children are real humans and their pain is real” and “don’t underestimate how important things are to children.”

I don’t remember my dreams very well, and when I, right now, remember being in a dream, it is vague, unreal, and like the images flicker out beneath me. If you asked me if being in a dream is as real as real life, I would say no, not really.

Except I have messages, the same sort my child self sent to my adult self. The messages say “I know I am in a dream, but this is no less real than your every day life. These sensations are real. I can feel pain, cold, hunger, joy. I am looking around at the room and it is the same. Do not forget this.”

The most vivid thing I take out of my dreams is that message, and that really freaks me out".
