Probably about his level, do they have a different transfer window to the rest of the country or did we release him?

League One and Two’s transfer window closed at 5pm today. Scotland’s closes at midnight so there’s still a possibility of moving more on. I’ve seen rumours of Smith to Hearts so fingers crossed.

Not a bad end to the window.

8m for Appiah was too good to turn down.

Ariyibi, Cummings, Bridcutt all gone. It sounds like we'll terminate Murphy's contract too.

Let's see if Olympiakos make a few moves. They've been linked with a few of ours all summer.

Very pleased to see some of the deadwood gone. We're still about 6 or 7 bodies too many but it's a start.

Wow. 16 players moved on this Summer.................and still 6 or 7 bodies too many!!!

Says it all about the club's recruitment policy.

We really must, Darcy. We simply cannot fund a squad that size without falling foul of FFP regulations........hence the sale of Appiah for £8m to balance the books. The fees received for him and Osborn should keep our heads above water, but I just can't wait for certain players' contracts to  run down so we can be rid of them.

In future, we really must just buy one or two quality players per season, instead of buying anything with two legs.

It's OK letting contracts run down but then replacing 4/5 deadwood players with 4/5 players of a similar standard keeps the situation the same and this is what we've been doing for years.

Our signings tend to fall under one of three categories:

A player over 30 with a decent pedigree but best years have gone (Murphy, Adomah, Watson, Dawson, Benoloane)

An unknown foreign player, often on a free or next to nothing fee and usually makes one or two appearances or less never to be seen again (Ariyibi, Fuentes, Tachtsidis, Ansarifard, Bouchalakis, Stojkovic, Lica, Perauis, Dejegah, Lam etc etc)

A player who perhaps once was seen as a promising player but serious injuries and/or shocking attitude took away their hunger or their ability (Bostock, Miller, Bendtner, Jara, Abdoun, Hobbs, McCormack, Byram, Traore etc etc)

Every now and again we land a gem like Lolley or Robinson but our success rate must be about 15%. Whoever is in charge of the recruitment must have some serious questions to answer.  In fact I doubt there is much of a recruitment team at the club as the nature of the signings and the complete random scatter-gun recruitment policy with seemingly no plan lends itself IMO to be agents touting to the owners.

We also do this with managers too by the way. How many of our former managers are currently in work?

There are 10 players out of contract at the end of the season by my count; Smith, Steele, Robinson, Dawson, Benalouane, Milosevic, Watson, Yacob, Bridcutt and Ameobi.

I'd give Robinson and maybe Ameobi new deals, which would give us a squad of 20.

Then if we move on Hefele, Pants and Clough then it could be the fresh start and lean squad that most of us would like
