The Telegraph game is up and running so I've done a mini-league.

It's free to enter but if you want to be eligible for the big prizes* you'll have to pay a fiver

leagues > join a private league > league PIN: 8148308 code: 1865

*obviously you have no chance of winning because I will be winning.

Tried about 6 times to do this but every single time had problems with logging in.

You're in the league. At least I assume that's you?

Art's tips: Favour players from the first groups then you can use your transfers to replace them with players who have still to play and gain an extra game B)

Ah yeah it's done now. To be honest I probably won't look at it again so they all need to get to the quarters minimum for me to stand a chance

Already made 1 transfer as I'd chosen Sane in the midfield...how he didn't get in to the German squad is beyond me.

Had him in my team too thought he'd be a starter for them! No chance for Germany now without Goetze "and" Sane LOL

I'll wait for a bit now, who knows who'll get injured!

Are you saying pick players from Groups A-D as if they don't get picked you can replace them with players from Groups E-H and get a second bite at the cherry?

Also, without giving away your strategy too much, do you subscribe to the theory that there is no point signing "big" players like Ronaldo, Kane, Messi etc as every other sod will have picked them so you don't really gain any advantage? Or would say these sort of players accompanied by a few dark horses is a better strategy? I could never figure that out with fantasy football.

Too late for me as I picked my team before I saw Art's tip. I avoided Messi and Ronaldo because I can't remember them doing too much in the World Cup before, might just be mis remembering though.

You can all make unlimited transfers until the first game kicks off B) It's standard these days, otherwise they'd get thousands of people trying to enter a team in the one hour before kick off and the website will collapse...

Say you've got three transfers - You start with Greizman, he plays Friday, you transfer him out on Saturday for Messi, swap him Sunday for Naymar, then swap him Monday for Lukaku. You've had four games from them and Lukaku still has two to come. You've had a total of six games from that one position so you've had an extra game from each transfer.

If you started with someone from Group H there's nowhere to go, anyone you bring in doesn't really gain anything. You always want to be swapping someone who's just played to someone with games to come. They'll be exceptions, you'd rather have someone playing Saudi Arabia than Germany even if you don't gain a game, but you want a majority of your transfers to be swapping to someone in a later group.

On picking the big players - In a Premier League game there are always some players you have to have (eg. last season Kane and Salah) but at a tournament not so much. I'm not considering Kane or Ronaldo. I doubt anyone will score so big you can't manage without them. It'll probably come down more to having the right defenders......

The sort of advice you can take your hat off to - thank you.

The Sun Game is out. The website's always a bit of a mess, half the players aren't even available, and it's all a bit of a lottery but it's free and the prizes are massive so people might like to have a look - https://www.dreamteamfc.com

Just looking through the Telegraph squads and I spot Raphael Marquez :ohno02: He must be pushing fifty by now.

Is anybody else playing the official "McDonalds FIFA World Cup Fantasy" game?

It's a bit more realistic than the Telegraph game in that you pick a squad of 15 but only get one free transfer a week during the group stage and only 13 for the knockout stages, so the emphasis is more on picking a solid squad that will see you through the tournament rather than chopping and changing every day. It might suit you if you haven't got the time to be logging into make lots of transfers.

Is it just me or are many of the players on Dream Team really under-priced? 10 of my eleven players were from big teams and I still had six and a half million to spare!

I do like that the number of transfers are more limited and that players get awarded points for being rated 7+ so bring it on!

Not my creation, but the Nottingham Forest supporters league PIN is: WCJZ29VW

Yeah, it is a very generous budget. If you leave out Neymar and Messi you can pretty much have whoever you like. That combined with the fact half the lesser known players aren't even available means there'll be hundreds of identical teams. So it'll come down to getting lucky with the timing of your transfers.

Not sure about the fifa one. At a glance it looks less trouble than the telegraph/sun but when you look at the rules it's quite complicated - You can swap out players who've already played and have their score replaced by the substitute's so need to make sure your subs are always playing later than your first 11 and checking the scores to see if it's worth swapping them over or not. Then there's the two 'wild cards', the 'bench boost', and the 'captain boost'......Although the sun could learn a lot from looking at their website. I might stick a team in but it'll be a last minute effort when I've got all my telegraph and Sun ones sorted.....

Here's a handy spreadsheet for fantasy football / betting use. It's got all the fixtures and times and you can enter the results and it'll work out the groups and next round fixtures you :nerd:

If you had a decent team which you thought would get through the group stages without too many changes you could enter them into the official FIFA World Cup game here: https://fantasy.fifa.com/en/myteam

With only one transfer a week such a team would be better suited to that game than the Telegraph one.

The leagues looking a bit feeble. Anyone else?JR? ER? H-B? And where's Murf?

H-B, I've stuck a team in the McDonalds game and joined that Forest league. You might spot me. I'll be the one at the top B)

This is why I tend to finish bottom of these things.
