I am looking at organising an event, the venue is a hotel and no problem there bar, meals, late license etc.
What I do want is a good guest to sell the show, obviously with Irish connections as it is in aid of our club which has well over 500 kids and adults, lad's and lasses registered, but as with these things it's an eternal struggle to keep the club afloat.
Had in mind John Aldridge Paul McGrath or Jason Mac'ateer.

What about Gerry Adams? No, I suppose he'd bomb.

Our club has done it a couple of times. We've charged ticket money and we've also tied it in to sporting memorabilia. If you can agree a deal with such companies that can often help where there's like a sale or return deal and there's a minimum price deal on each item. If you can get someone who knows what they're doing as an auctioneer you can often be quids in. I've watch two blokes go head to head for a signed Beckham boot. It got to £750 quid and both bidders were willing to pay that. Once that was established, the auctioneer pulled out the other boot which was also signed. £1500 just like that. We've also included a couple of games, where folk stick £20 in an envelope and it's tied to a big cash prize draw. Depending on how well its planned you can get your speaker money back several fold.

Thanks Big Jay, Unlikely I would get either Mick or Roy, and might cause world war III with the divided opinions on their individual rolls re Saipan. Now if I could get them BOTH there I would make a fortune selling theTV rights alone...it's so insane it could actually work !!!!
Rev Paisley, now that would sell tickets as I expect it would raise moe than a laugh as we will need to probably raise HIM from the dead.
Thanks Leather : Some food for thought there, one thing I was looking at was an auction, trying to come up with new ideas other than raffles and flag days, people get tired of giving in these ways, have some connections within the club to the FAI and might cadge some stuff there.
Thanks Saurus : I would love to have Kevin Keegan, now theres a man with a tale or two to tell. Hopefully this one will be such a success that I can do two a year with different guests, firstly I need to raise peoples interest, hence the Irish connection, then hopefully people will have enjoyed it so much I can have different speakers.
Jon Wickett : If you read this I will pm you some time if you dont mind as I would very much appreciate any advice you might give through your experiences of fund raising for your club Stafford Rangers, open forum might not be the best way as we have some crasse posters.........
Thanks OBE : If ever there was doubt you clearly showed the mark of the man that is you. "Get a terrorist in who could bomb a charity dinner dance" in aid of raising critically needed finance to run a football club and academy for around 200 kids. You really are a no mark low life worthless piece of rancid dog shit.
When i have it organised, if anyone fancies a ticket or two you would be more than welcome to attend, make a weekend of it in the west of Ireland, East Mid's to knock return for around £20.
